Why does it take so long for a tv show to be put on dvd?

they release like 1 season per year, can't they just all do it at once?

Answer:
Probably has to with legal contracts with cable networks who would stand to lose viewership if too many TV shows are released too quickly. There might be clauses which state how much time must pass before the studio is allowed to release a DVD of seasons.

By the way, imagine when Blu-Ray catches. You could have the entire season on 1 or 2 Blu-Ray discs!

But I'm just guessing about this whole thing.
Same reason they do it with movies released onto video, its to create anticipation, if they released all at once people would become excited over the new DVD set coming out.
