Re mote sensor does not work on old tv. Is this a simple repairable. TV does work from set controls.?
Answer:
It is more likely to be the fault of the remote control, two easy ways to check it,
Operate the remote while pointing it At a video camera, the person looking thru the camera will be able to see the remote control flashing, ( video cameras can see infra red )
Take a AM transistor radio , tune to blank spot on dial , turn the volume up and hold the remote against the radio and operate the remote , you will hear a loud buzz !. Of course try the batteries first !! Cheers Pete.
First you need to determine if the problem is the hand held sending unit or the receiving unit in the TV.
To check the sending unit:
1. Removed batteries and with a knife scratch the contacts on both ends of each battery, and also scratch the contacts on the unit. Now check and see if your TV responds.
2. Next try replacing the batteries with new ones.
If the above does not solve the problem, get a generic remote control and program for your TV and see if this works.
If none of the above work, the problem is in the TV.
I would replace your old TV with a new, the cost to repair an old TV will probably be half the cost of a new TV.
