What are good brands for LCD HDTVs?

I want to purchase a new 37"-42" LCD HDTV, but a lot of the brands are unfamiliar to me. Reviews are inconsistent. Is there anyone in the know?

I've done a lot of research and have been in the business of repairing TVs since 1979. I've grown to appreciate the consistency in excellence of the Sony product over these years. I selected a Sony LCD HDTV for my own last July and love it.
