I am installing a plasma tv and I need to move an electrical outlet in an existing wallto hide the wires. How?
Answer:
If you follow the instructions given to you by the users of CeQnA.com you will die a painful death while attempting to move this outlet. Contact a professional electrician. Try the yellow pages.
hammer...
If you are not familar with electrical wiring... DONT touch it, find a friend, an electrician, someone who knows what they are doing. New tv wont do any good if you get electicuted or burn the house down.
It is not a whole lot of work but I suggest if you dont find a clear and definite answer from here you have to research for yourself online. Also, there may be safety codes you need to adhere to. Basically though its just, shutting the power off to the wires, cutting a hole where you want the wires to go and moving the wires to is. I'm not sure what specifications are involved though so, just, if you dont have some actual useful information from CeQnA.com you should talk to someone in person or do some research first. For safety mostly.
Make a spur!
POWER OFF.
Chase the wall to where you want the new outlet.
Fit new outlet backing box.
Connect wires to existing outlet, colours like for like.
Connect wires to new outlet.
Power ON.
SORTED!
NO DEATH, NO FIRES, NO PROBLEM!
The voltage that most people die from when electrocuted is 120 (what is in your house) Also, if you make a bad connection you could easily cause an electrical fire. As a journeyman electrician my husband recommends contacting someone who knows what their doing. Electrical work is too dangerous a project to rely on advice from CeQnA.com!
first off, it's not the voltage that will kill you it's the current. Moving the outlet is easy if you know what you are doing. Since you are posting here for guidance you obviously don't know what you are doing. Pay an electrician to move your power and then have them install you provisions to run wires to your plasma. Don't be stupid and screw it up.
i installed my own plasma and it works and looks great,
you need to say why your moveing the outlet ?
and how far?
if you needing to hide the wires do what i did
and sink them in to the wall
it looks impressive NOT seeing crappy wire falling down from the plasma
carry on and give it a go
i hope this helps

ok well this really depends on how much you need to move it, sideways or up or down for starters if you simply need to move it up to the planned height of the tv its likely to be pretty simple. And something you might be able to get a friend of yours with some handyman knowledge to do. if its going sideways in the wall. Well its not fun generally speaking though, just put some furniture or something there. way more sensible.
