My t.v. screen doesn't show picture or sound when turned on. Can someone help me fix it?
Answer:
Hey Sam, you don't suppose it might help us to know what kind of TV you have, do ya?
How old is it?

Well, just from what you are describing you have an intermittent connection where your cable is connected to the back of the set.
You'd be lucky if it was a bad cable and all you had to do was to change it for another one...try that.
Also, make sure where the cable connects that that connection is tightened all the way and nothing appears to be broken either on the cable or the connector on the back of the set.
If you have an Antenna, hook it up to the ANT input on the tv and see if you get a picture...if you do, you can be sure that the problem is with the cable-in connection on the back...which is what it looked like it would be anyway.
The fact that you can see the channel numbers and the menu and volume has nothing to do with your reception but more to do with the internal operation of your set...in other words, you'd see them even with no cable connected to give you program input.
Without actually being there and looking at it myself, it's difficult to give you an exact diagnosis.
Being that the set is seven years old, and if you don't get that problem fixed, it might just be time to treat yourself to a brand new set...you can pick up a Hi-Definition set for around $2000 or just get yourself a decent digital TV for around $500 at Circuit City or one of those electronic outlets.
To call in a repairman and fix the problem you have would probably run you around $350 or so...you might as well use that money for a new set with a manufacturer's warranty.
Good luck!
get you a new one
Obviously this problem comes from the input section, when you jiggle and it work the connector still in touch even for a little. But now it lose for sure.
Well for starters I would change the cable and see what happens. Could just be a bad connection. However if that didn't work then I would suspect a bad connection inside of the set itself. If that is the case it should not cost very much to repair.
