How is satellite tv??...Is it true that the dish will fly off if its windy?? or is this just a myth?

I wanna get satellite tv since its way cheaper than cable in my area, but my dad seems to have the idea that the dishes always fly off when theres strong winds...( and i live in New York City) where we don't get too strong winds anyway..but anyways just wanted to get this clear if it was a myth or not..I would think its not as bad is i hear or else no one would have it..Where i live most houses have satellite dishes on them anyway.thanks

Answer:
no, it's not true IF you set it up correctly, do this by using a Electrician or the CableGuy...
We live on a mountain and have watched 50 MPH winds take trees out; dish never moves. (direct tv)
No they wont, with proper installation they are made to withstand outside conditions.

They are bolted to your house.

Sometimes a storm comes it will block the signal from the sat and cannot watch tv unitl it clears up.
Satellite dishes won't blow away. I live in a place with lots of wind and open area, and mine hasn't. In NYC there's a bunch of buildings to block the wind anyway.
Sure, if the wind is strong enough, it'll blow the dish off of the roof but you're talking tornado or hurricane wind and then you should be more worried about your whole roof, not just the dish.
I've been hooked up to Dish Network for two years and I haven't had a problem. They did a nice job of installing the dish and I've never worried about it flying away.
I love satellite...the DVR feature is way cool! :-)
Never lost a dish yet, and we get some high winds where I live. The only problem I have is that we lose service in heavy storms.
The dish won't fly away! I have had satellite and I honestly don't recommend it. Yeah you get a lot more channels than with cable, but you lose the signal a lot. You have to reboot the receivers often and directv's customer service leaves a lot to be desired. One of the technicians that installed my satellite didn't have a clue what he was doing and ruined part of the siding on my house. I just switched back to cable!
Some say that sat will lose signal in bad weather I have had this problem 2 times in the 5 years I have had the system, both times the air raid sirens went off to take cover tornado coming. I call it my early warning system. LNBs coming off the only times I hear are when yokels do it themselves,Install is free most of the time!

Have Dad checked out!
