Answer:
If you're dead set on plasma you would be better off purchasing the Pioneer PDP-5070HD. However you'll forego "Full HD" 1080p capability (in and of itself it's not that big a problem) and you will need to live with the very real risk of image burn-in that can afflict plasma displays that are regularly used for viewing broadcast television.

You would be better off with one of the newer, better quality, LCD TVs such as the new Sharp AQUOS D92U or D82U series TVs or JVC's LT-46FN97 LCD TV, all of which are specified as "Full HD" 1080p TVs.

Excellent set especailly at that price which is about 1100 dollars off the regular price. As far as plasma sets go, i would put it in the top 2 for a 720p set and at that price it would easily be number one. It has multiple hdmi and component inputs on it allowing you to have several high definition sources hooked up to it. It is the best selling plasma set on the market at that size. As far as problems, they are no different from any other plasma, the big two being screen glare and burn in which are both preventable with room placement and usage of the set.
If it is new it is a great price.you can go to
www.consumerreports.org and create a user name and password in just a few minutes and get ratings and reviews on all plasma sets. This model is rated highly and the $1600 is a very good price.the only unit in consumer reports rated close to it for that price is the Vizio,(69 CR rating) and Maxent(62 CR rating) 50 inch available for around the same price. The Panasonic came in at 55 CR rating.I believe part of the little lower rating for the Panasonic is it usually retails much higher than the other 2.There was not that much difference between all 3 in the rating categories.
Good luck you'll love the plasma once you get it!
1st, get the TH-50PX600U instead. Its a better model. You will get better parts and decoder.

2nd, order it from www.abesofmaine.com for $ 1,884.55.

This is from a lot of research before I bought my tv.

AS owning a TV repair shop and a Panasonic Warranty Center and selling TVs also.

I would suggest a Sony LCD, Toshiba Plasma or a Pioneer Elite Plasma.

Their TVs are OK. Alot better than Samsung and Phillips.
