What is NTSC in a TV?

I read a prev Q&A re NTSC in DVD's but basically want to know if this will be compatible with a bog standard DVD player bought in Asda last year.

NTSC is the analog television system in use in Canada, Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, the United States, and some other countries, mostly in the Americas

there are different types of television systems,
NTSC- u.s.a, canada, japan etc.
PAL-europeetc
SECAM-others etc

thats why you have to buy different dvd players, and games consoles for different places.

The U.K. is PAL, NTSC compatible just means ,that NTSC stuff will work as well.

You DVD player will be fine.
