Is it cost effective to fix a tvthat was struck by lighting?

the tv sounds like it wants to turn on but never does. it's a small 13 inch with vcr included and it's quite a few years old i wouldn't want to spend more than $20.00 on it

Answer:
-I doubt very much that you could have that unit repaired for $20 . Labour charges are more than that . then they have parts and tax .. Lightning damages more than shows up , that sudden power surge weakens other components that may still work but with continued use its only a matter of time before its broken again .. You can get a nice little TV almost anywhere, walmart sells them for 60 bucks . if you want a TV VCR combo it will be a bit more OR you can get a TV DVD combo ..( 99.00 ) Then you have a new set , probably a better picture and a warranty
There are other places you can buy them besides Walmart I just used that as an example but as I said .. the repair will cost you that much and then your spending the money on a used TV ...Its always a good idea to unplug your TV and other electronics during a storm .. that includes the TV cable ... if you disconnect the cable never lay it somewhere that you could touch it .. lightning searches for ground and it follows wires and cables .. and can even get into buried cables.. there are lightning or surge protectors on the market that will re -emburse you if any device is damage while plugged into it ..
No. It's never cost effective to fix items like that, for obvious reasons that you have to pay for labor plus the parts that is needed to be replaced (Labor don't come cheap). Just buy a new one and save yourself the headache. And also purchase a good surge protector on every electronic item in your house.
No.

It could have damages a lot of circuits. If they replace one, it may work for a little while. But other circuits may break afterwards.

Its like a car after a big car wreck. They get it moving, but there maybe a lot of other problems later on.

GL.
