No. The lamp will just go out, it won't go dim first. It is probably something else.

How old is the bulb? It usually stand for 2-3 years.
Most of the lamp defect is explode (instant dead) and very rare that it goes dim first. But the lamp is the only light source of the unit so the problem must be related to the bulb.
