they are about 3 inches apart and are constantly running sometimes up and sometimes down the screen...sometimes they are very faint and times they are very strong...thought it might be the coax cable that i'm using...i'm running thru Time Warner cable box into a 43 inch Hitachi big screen...thanks in advance

That sounds like interference; have a cable repair person come out and have a look at it. If you are experiencing interference, and it's not coming from the cable itself, it's usually your responsibility to put the appropriate filters on it to get rid of the interference.
This sometimes occurs when someone has tapped into the cable illegally; I had a neighbor who did this to my cable, and really screwed up the picture and sound. That's why it's a good idea to have your cable company do the checking; that way, they can deal with the person who is stealing if they wish.
