Will there ever be a resolution higher than 1080p?

Answer:
There already is a resolution higher than 1080p. There are LCD screens which can display up to 2048x1280. It seems as though you are asking if there will be a television set with a higher resolution. The answer to that question is most likely yes. New HDTV technology will eventually be developed allowing 1620i then 1620p and so on. The question is merely when. Just remember, you can have any resolution you want, but if the content you are displaying isn't in that resolution, upconverting generally doesn't work well. If they only send out 1080 lines of information, what good would a tv capable of displaying 1620 lines be? it would have to insert "dummy" information to stretch the picture and then it wouldn't look good.
