The simple answer is yes. As long as both components are HD-capable there is no problem. There are some extremely uncommon circumstances where the components when put together dont work well with HDMI, but that is less than a .5% chance. Also make sure you are receiving HD programming from directv. It's extra programming that you have to pay extra for and includes only about 12 channels.
