My Sony TV suddenly shut off - no power, no nothing. HELP?!?!?! have a huge, HEAVY TV and I am contemplating if I should just toss it (I can't afford a new TV), or get four guys to help lift it into my car to take it to a TV repair guy who charges $60. I have the schematics - I hate to throw it away if it can be salvaged - it's about 10 years old, and it worked perfectly until it shut off in the middle of a show. I opened it up and dusted it out, and looked for any loose wires or fried connections. I didn't see anything - but I'm not a tv repairman - I don't really know what I should be looking for. Does anyone have any suggestions I could try?

If you already opened it, look for a fuse (glass tube with a wire in it, big around as a pencil) that may be blown. If you find one, take it to radio shack and they will know what size to give you. On the schematics it should have a key to show you what the symbol for a fuse is. I think they usually look like a w . If you know anybody that works on cars, they might bring their multimeter over and test the circuit for you to see where the electricity stops.
Also, the breaker for the wall outlet may have tripped; try plugging a lamp or something into the outlet to make sure it has current.
A Good quality TV tube type lasts 8-12 years. You have met its lifespan. Time for another quality TV.
Now the TVs are walmart and Samsclub +Samsung+Sharp lasts from 30days-5years.
You prolly have a trinitron, those are heavy. If I were you, Id get a new TV, but if you cant afford a new one. Get the tv repair man to come to your house and see if he can fix it there.
