What can i expect from HDTV's?
Would the viewing experience be worth the money?
I'm assuming that we're watching analog cable since our cable company does not offer HD yet.
Answer:
HDTV is a new generation TV which takes up less space and easy to move around. However, if you don't have the right "add ons", it's not HD.
You have to have the right cable service which provides HD channels, right now not every channel is broadcasting HD.
If you are watching VHS or regular DVD, the result is the same as your 10-year old TV. Only Blu-ray or HD-DVD provides 1080i results, and you have to have the matching DVD player, not the regular player.
Last, you must use "component cable" for all these peripherals, otherwise you won't get HD result.
It was a hassle when I bought my HDTV and I learn that there are many strings attached.
R u ready? Good luck!
Nope. Actually looks worse in many cases.
If you don't upgrade to Hi Def cable, you will not see any difference, in fact, the picture quality will be less. even on non def channels, on a hi def set, the picture can be shadowy. Sony is way overpriced, BTW. Panansonic is one of the top rated sets and a lot cheaper.
The will be no difference at all.
But eventually, your cable provider will switch to HD so you should buy an HD when the time comes.
Don't buy one now because HD TVs are expected to become cheaper around the summer.
In February 2009 all television transmissions have been federally mandated to transmit digital signals - analog will be history.
You are right that your output can not be better than your input. But don't you ever watch DVDs? The picture will be considerably better on a HDTV set. Also, you should plan a TV purchase for what you'll need from it over the next 10 to 15 years.
However, if you really want an analog TV, we still have a few and will be happy to dump...I mean sell one to you. : ]
O. K., In interest of full disclosure, I do work as a bookkeeper in a Sony dealership, all we sell is Sony TVs. But come on, do you think Sony would still be in business if they were asking more money for the same or inferior product. Check out those comparisons again. Sony is cutting edge technology, it puts out a true 1080p product. (The HD offered now on cable and sattelite are 1080i, Blueray is 1080p. 1080p has twice the resolution of 1080i. I find it hard to believe in this competitive world that some executive somewhere will not decide to send out 1080p signal to scoop the competition.)
Plasma tvs are sinking into the west due to the high energy demand and short life span - they get hot and that wears out the unit. Plus the picture fades over time. Check out the LCD panels. They have a much longer life to offer, O.K. occasionally you'll have to replace one of the bulbs in the unit.
Still, I wish I had a Sony XBR3 unit to watch hockey on.
For a bigger screen, and capabilitys of High Definition Sports, Movies watching and over the air HD programming. Id say YES.
More than likely your cable already has digital channels in it, you need a digital tuner to pick them up. Or get a HD cable box and man, its like looking out a window.
Sony makes some of the Best TV out the, I know how good they are because I work on them (TV repair).
So your not really just paying for a name, your paying for good technology, good robust design, excellent picture and support.
Sony bravias are good tvs, alot better than samsung, sharp and all those other off brands.
