TV antenna question?
Answer:
I guess the first question I have is ... What channels were you getting with your old antenna?
Also, does the TV have different inputs for VHF and UHF? If it does then you need a splitter. If not then keep reading.
What type of antenna did you buy? VHF, UHF, combination VHF,UHF?
Channels 2-13 are VHF channels. TV channels 14, 15, 16, etc are UHF channels. If you bought a VHF only antenna it is not designed for UHF reception. However if you bought a VHF/UHF antenna then you might be aiming the antenna in the wrong direction.
antennas will only bring in locals any ways so if your getting 12 channels your already pushing max. you cant get uhf ch! unless you raise your ant or get a sig booster you never will. UHF = more signal loss from transmit to recieve vhf =less sig loss from trans to recieve
higher freq and band more power required to transmit
Also, is the new antenna directional or not?
You can try to point the antenna to your broadcast tower. Look at this site:

to figure out where the towers are in your area
I appears you may have a VHF-only antenna. Your old antenna may have been a combined VHF-UHF model. You can add a UHF antenna using a UHF--VHF combiner.
I BELIEVE your TV set is set for the wrong type of reception..
TVs have a choice of CABLE or ANTENNA reception, but not both at the same time...One or the other, not both.
So, look in your menu for CABLE/AIR.or the AUTOPROGRAM selections, If your looking at CABLE, set it up for Cable..
If it's AIR based stations, set it for AIR/Antenna.
You'll get the proper channels.
