My TV Turns on and off all by itself.?
Answer:
Probably getting over heated. Turn it off and unplug it and clean it with the computer dirt spray and vaccum it. WOrth a try. or take it to a local repairman and he'll clean it for 20 or so dollars. Just tell him you want it cleaned...not what it is doing. Bring it home and try it out again. Replace if it still happens.
In a funnier note:
My neighbor at an old apartment before I bought my house had the same TV and everynow and again his remote would shut my TV off and Vice/versa but only in the summer would this happen. Ended up we was getting reflection from a car windshield when both our windows were open.
get a new one
mine does that too, but i just turn it back on, or if it turns itself on, I take it off standby...
sweet just hit it a few times..
maybe the remote is stuck up your a** and evrey time you fart it turns on/off!(its what happened to me last week it had to be surgically removed i called it an A(**)-section...
i had this problem and got it fixed. it was to do with damage to the central chip on the motherboard (could be caused by overheating). i got mine fixed but it cost about £100 / $200. Get a repair guy out because often these tv's can be fixed - or to avoid hassle get a new one.
If your RCA is only 3-4 years old they have had problems with their button strips. I had a 27" given to me that had this problem. I work for a tv sales/service store and we have had at least 10-15 of these tv's (all bought at Walmart) with this problem.
If it is not the button strip there is some sort of part in the power supply (relay switch, ic, transformer, etc) that needs to be replaced.
I am not sure where you live but repair costs can vary widely so it is best to call around and check with a couple of repair centers. Plan to pay somewhere around 100-150.00. Best to go to one that is RCA Authorized to get the best service.
If you do replace the set make sure to stick with Sony, Panasonic, or Toshiba. We used to sell RCA but dropped them as a sales item due to the decrease in quality of their sets. We do service a LOT of the though.
Hope this helps.
