Buying new tv plasma or lcd what brand 50" or biger.?
Answer:
Definitely a Sony 50". Plasma is OK (go with Panasonic if you must buy one) but plasma does have a lot of draw backs.
1. They are very heavy
2. They have glare and reflection on the screen due to the glass fronts
3. They use 2-3X the amount of energy that a LCD does
4. They are hard to service
5. They run VERY hot.
6. They are subject to Burn in
Both the plasma and LCD FLAT PANEL *not the rear projo lcd's* have a viewing angle of about 178 degrees. The rear lcd projos have about 130 degree viewing angle.
Lcd's do not have the glare/reflection issues that plasmas do as they don't have glass fronts. Both can be hung on the wall or stay on their pedestal bases.
Rear LCD projos run with a light engine and a lamp. The lamp will need to be replaced eventually. Also the rear projos can not be hung on a wall.
Do your research, get to know your model numbers, and do NOT buy a mongrel (off name) brand. Stick with the brand name sets. Better quality set, better reliability, and easier to find service for them should you need it.
i have my eye on the Sony 55" Grand WEGA Rear-Projection LCD HDTV Model: KDF-55E2000 its around 1700 and the picture quality is amazing.
Projection TV's suck. The picture is dark in the corners no matter how expensive the model. Go with plasma. They cost less than LCD and are significantly more reliable. Get the extended warranty though just in case.
