Problem next to my HDTV (RCA F38310)?

I have an elder HDTV- originally purchased in 2001. It's the RCA F38310. A 38" widespread screen (tube). It supports 480i and 1080i.
Here's the problem. When I switch from a lower resolution UP to 1080i - the picture scrambles- and it stays scrambled.
The merely way to unscramble it is to toggle spinal column and forth between the 1080i signal and an unused input.
Sometimes it works the first time, other times I'm switching back and forth for 5 minutes up to that time it clears up.
Anyone have an view what the problem is and how it could be fixed? ...Does anyone one even own this model anymore?

Thanks in finance

Answers:    wow you have one of the innovative hd tvs. i have see this with elder tube hdtvs. its just the path the tv processes the signal. on my sales floor i use to enjoy to make sure the tv have a very devout connection and strong signal. somtimes some prgrams would play fine, other times different programs would be scrabled or choppy the undamaged time. so really i think its a short time ago the old time hd processors. unless you want to replace one of the parts of the tv you a moment ago have to traffic with it. what i would do is supply it( that thing is only a beast anyways) and run buy a new hdtv the picture on the different hdtvs are allot better than the original hdtvs. i know i didnt help out much but good luck
