Is near really much of a difference between 720p and 1080p?

We're planning on buying a widescreen tv (our first) and have gotten relatively confused since visiting the stores. Our through question is how much of a difference is in attendance between 720p and 1080p? The store associates say within is a huge difference, but I'd rather know from non-sales relations. I saw a video of Planet Earth playing on a 50" tv in 1080p yesterday and I loved it. If we buy a 720p tv, will that same video look almost as fitting as it would on the 1080p? I'm just wondering how much of a difference in that really is.

Answers:    There is a difference but you probably wont be able to consideration it. How far away do you sit from the TV? Most peoples eyes will not be able to pick-up any difference from distances of 7 foot or greater. That being said, 1080p is the greatest resolution available. BluRay and HDDVD players are capable of putting out a 1080p signal and various of the HD movies have a 1080p resolution. Broadcast TV, cable and satellite, otherwise only use 720p and 1080i signals and it will be MANY years past there is a possibility of 1080p broadcasts. Right in a minute you will get the most thud from your buck with the 720p HDTV. 1080p is marketing gimmick similar to the marketing of megapixels within digital cameras. The more important specs you should look at are contrast ratio - the high the better (1200:1 and up) and response time - how quick the TV processes descriptions. Look for at least 8ms surrounded by that.
The simple answer, there is a difference. If you hadn't see Planet Earth on 1080p I would have said you could amass money buying a 720p, but the upgrade is well worth it surrounded by my opinion.

If you plan to purchase a gaming console or a high-definition movie player, those are the main products that use the 1080 capability over the 720, so you should absolutely buy the 1080. 1080p is, obviously, the highest resolution in the HDTV spec, and if you have a source (don't depend on cable or SAT for a while) such as a Hi-DEf DVD player and/or PS3 gaming console they are marvelous.

720p/1080i is still powerfully within the HD spec and provides wonderful viewing for most folks -and- the providers are starting to really loosen up and are constantly accumulation addition 720/1080i source stuff.

If it were me, and a bit than study specs, I'd simply let my eyes and my wallet be the determining factor.
