What is the best 42" LCD television to buy?

I think the Sony Bravia is by far the best.
It Has to be a Samsung. All others companies who create lcd tv's get there ideas and parts from samsung. I have a samsung 42 inch lcd and its simply amazing!
Here is a HEAVILY discounted 42" Go Video Widescreen LCD TV.
It went from over 2000 dollars, to under 950 dollars.
I would buy one if I had the money!

I can't keep track of the silly AR diffusers that just don't work well.you end up seeing a 42inch picture of your exterior windows.and a sunny day shining through them!
Samsung does have everyone scrambling.
The Sharp Aquos is also a nice monitor.

I took 3 weeks to research this subject. I looked at all 3 technologies, Plasma, DLP, & LCD. I chose LCD. Then I searched first hand until I decided on a 42" Sony LCD HDTV - Grand Wega. The Wega " engine" is an interface so you get good resolution even on Digital channels. The new version of that engine is called the " Bravia " . It is essentially the same thing. The Bravia has 2 HDMI ports on it , as opposed to one DVI port on the Wega. But, I chose to buy a Monster HDMI to DVI cable from Ebay, price $ 57.00 Can., whereas Future Shop wanted $ 179.00 for the same thing. Mine was new too !! I used that instead of component cables. If you choose to get this TV, the component cables(red,blue,green) hook up on HD-in on one end of the TV, as opposed to the back, where you would put them for Digital. My Motorola HD/Digital cable box has an HDMI port, and the TV has the DVI. The Bravia has HDMI (2) My TV looks better than ones that cost a lot more. Sony has a good name & they look after their products. My next choice for LCD would have been Panasonic 42".
By far, Sony makes the best TV out there and so do the brands below

Go check out a Toshiba LCD 42LZ196 42" Cinema Series Pro. They make me drool! Great price too. Sorry Samsung is crap, Sharp invented the LCD and everybody is coping them.
It depends what you're looking for. Personally, I really like the Samsungs, although the Sharp XD1E range looks very tempting. I have a friend who just bought a Toshiba 42WLT66, and she's deeply and disturbingly in love with it ;)

STOP! STOP! STOP! Why is that when ever someone asks for the BEST no one ever looks at the smaller but LUXURY brand names??! Thought i should throw another couple of options your way as so far people have only recommended your mass produced junk!!
If you really want the very best screens on the market you need to look further a field (just like with cars - Bugatti / Ferrari are high end performers and not the standard Ford / Vauxhall).
The screens that are recommended to the people in the know are LOEWE or Fujitsu Siemens (& SIM2 but only comes in 40''). These manufacturers are at the top of the LCD & PLASMA market so you generally wont see them, apart from at specialist stores.
I would recommend the BRAND NEW 1080p (FULL HD) Aviamo by Fujitsu Siemens, it is fanastic from 37" right upto 65''. This screen offers 2 HDMI's and is easily wall mountable as is light!
If you have set your mind on a Sony / Pioneer or anyof the other everyday BORING brands - Pioneer is the screen to have! The Sony isnt winning any praise from people in the industry! I should know as i work with high end custom theatre systems everyday!
