My TV often varies in and out of stereo mode - making the sound go up n down. What can I do to fix it?

I used to get this problem a lot - The TV would keep switching out of stereo into mono and then back again. Really annoying. I tried tuning in the TV, but it just wouldn't last very long before it lost the stereo again.
I have a reasonable aerial for the area, but I had "daisy chained" the aerial through several pieces of equipment. Each one was degrading the signal that little bit more. Even though the picture looked reasonable. the stereo sound information was often so weak that the TV couldn't lock onto it and dropped back into mono.
The only way I could solve it was to use an aerial amplifier (actually an aerial distributor, since it had several outputs). I'm in the UK and found a good one from:

The main thing is to go for a low noise figure, even if that means sacrificing a little gain. Low noise is more important than gain.
A lot of countries are switching off analog signals and going all digital soon, so you might want to make sure the distributor says it is "digital ready" or something like that.
I fed the roof aerial through the satellite receiver and the VCR before going to the distributor. That way I can now enjoy wonderful quality TV/Satellite/VCR pictures all over the house.

Assuming there's not a fault in the TV, I'd say you've got poor reception. Till you get it sorted out, try turning stereo mode off - it'll be less annoying.

Try retuning your tv. If that doesn't work get an Aeriel specialist in.
