LCD. Good or unpromising?

I have hear good and bleak things about LCD TV's One doomed to failure thing I've hear is that eventually they get lines surrounded by the picture. Is this true? For those of you who have have an LCD TV for a year or more please tell me how they are.

Answers:    Warning: This is a restrictive you are not gonna get from the dealer or the manufactures. LCDs own very fragile, terribly breakable PLASTIC screens. Screens because here are two. The "inner" screen of my 7 mos. older Sony Bravia 42" is broken. Broken by a 34 lb., 3year old throwing an withdraw from plastic cup. The screens are plastic because they can be and it prevents the eyeshade from being reflective. It also make them CHEAPER to make. No warranty, no repair. If you own children or children visit, do not buy LCDs.
Plasma own a glass peak like adjectives other TVs except LCDs. Both are cheap to operate depending on where you live: 3-41/2 cents/hour for plasma and 2-3 cent/hour for LCD.
Plasma is better 42" or larger and contained by dark rooms or basements and for viewing sports. Most plasma brands also enjoy anti-glare coatings. When I can get another $2000 together I will gain plasma.
I prefer LCD to Plasma. It's a little more expensive but from what I've hear, LCD's have longer life-expectency than Plasmas, and if you are playing something which have a still image (such as a countdown timer within a football game), it won't burn itself into an LCD.
