How long do the lamp contained by the hd projectors usually second?

i am considering purchasing a hdtv or a hd projector. so this information would greatly influence my purchase. whats the damn deal

Answers:    My Panasonic AE-700 have an HID bulb that blew within 400 hours - basically past the warranty. Fortunately (unfortunately?) it be from a defective lot and was replaced for free. Were it not from that lot, it would own cost me $350.

MTBF is typically around 3000 hours. However, YMMV depending on how you treat it:

-Longer TV session but less frequent will penny-pinching longer life

-Short TV session and more frequent use regularly mean shorter life span

-Shutting down your projector while the fan is contained by high cool mode is close to playing Russian roulette with your bulb

Bottom string is a new bulb is expensive but DOES pass you an 'as new' picture. Having said all that, the AE-700, NEW, is selling for $800. The replacement bulb is selling for $300. So by the time it fail again, hopefully not till next Christmas, I'm thinking I can acquire a 60" plasma for around $2K which is what I paid for the projector within the first place.
