How to get the best picture quality for digital cable on my tv?
Answer:
You don't need BEST cables..since the signal is DIGITAL it's Noiseproof! That's why we're converting from analog TV signals to digital TV signals.so the picture is perfectly noise free..all you have to do is make sure you have a strong enough signal to drive the TV set's circuitry. Your cable man can come out and test the strength of the signal..
When he say's you have - 3 db, -2db, -1 db or preferably 0 db, you can rest assured it's enough for DIGITAL stations..As for ANALOG stations, it's better that you have -1 or 0 db for that.
Don't worry about buying MONSTER CABLE.for 6 foot runs it's not going to improve ANY signal at all..And for HDMI cables.just get a reasonably priced one, not the most expensive! Why? BECAUSE that signal is digital also, you don't need anything more than a good chunk of copper connecting the two devices.not necessary to have "Oxygen Free" and Hi Density foam core, and "Elliptical Braiding" and all that other HOO HAA.
All that other HOO HAA works great with ANALOG signals on a 50 long wire.and that's where it really does produce a better signal !
If you have HD digital cable (different than just digital, since you pay around $10 for HD channels), chances are that you have HDMI (kinda looks like a USB) on the back. If you do, connect that to the TV, then both uncompressed digital video and sound will go there.
If the cable box doesn't have HDMI, then use component video (it has three wire stuck together, red, green, and blue) to connect to the TV for video, and use a regular red and white cable for sound, since TV's only have 2 speakers, and can only simulate surround sound.
Now if you have a surround sound setup (an amplifier with additional speakers) and if the amplifier is recently bought (2006), then the amplifier should have HDMI connections on it. You can then connect HDMI from cable box to amplifier, and then amplifier to TV.
Hopefully the cable box and TV can both support sound through HDMI, or you may have to use additional cables for sound. Hope this helps!
The way you have it hooked up is the best way...unless your cable box has component or HDMI outputs. Do yourself a favor and get directv. The picture is just so much better. It will make you feel good about buying an expensive tv. Just so you are aware, you cannot get HD channels unless you subscribe and get a new cable box.
YOUR TV HAS A SLOT FOR A CABLE CARD...THAT'S THE BEST WAY TO HOOK UP YOUR TV.IT KEEPS THE SIGNAL IN THE DIGITAL DOMAIN AS LONG AS POSSIBLE. EXCEPT FOR DVR CABLE BOXES, MOST DON'T HAVE HDMI OUTPUTS. A CARD COST'S AROUND $1.75 A MONTH COMPARED TO THE $9 FOR A CABLE BOX.YOU WON'T GET THE CABLE COMPANY'S "GUIDE" BUT YOUR TV HAS A BUILT IN "TV GUIDE" SO THAT'S NOT AN ISSUE. YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO GET "ON DEMAND" VIA THE REMOTE. THE SECOND GENERATION CARD WILL SOLVE THAT PROBLEM.
THE CABLE CARD IS AN ELEGANT SOLUTION TO RID US OF THOSE MILLIONS OF UGLY CABLE BOXES.
BELOW IS A LINK WITH ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE CABLE CARD. PAST, PRESENT & FUTURE.
news flash the cable card is going bye bye there will not be any second gen cards due to the fact that cable is going to switched digital and requires a box
