Problem near my Sony Wega 50" TV - Any thoughts?

My TV is 1.5 yrs old. Yesterday I notice a 3"x 4" dark black spot surrounded by the bottom right of my screen. It appears to be on the inner side of the front chalice instead of a projection issue. But I'm not certain. I can't integer out what happened. It is muddy around the spot for about another inch too, but not as poorly lit. Has anyone heard of this or experienced it. Is it fixable? Is it worth fixing? Thanks within advance for any advice/direction.

Answers:    In adjectives probability you've fallen target to the same work issue that many of Sony's loyal customers are experiencing. First, did you purchase superfluous warranty on the set? If you did, contact Sony directly. If you did not, you'll need to hold an authorized Sony repair shop look at and diagnose the set IMMEDIATELY. If you take it to them, you're out of pocket will merely be about $20.00. There are forums online where on earth you can submit pictures of your tv's symptoms and someone there will let somebody know you what it's doing and why. Ecoustics.com is one of them and there is a affluence of information for you there.
It's call "optical block" and it's warranteed for TWO YEARS, so don't let them relay you otherwise. Your manufacturers warranty card say "two year warranty on color picture tube" and guess what? There isn't one in a RPTV! As if Sony didn't know that. That same warranty card be ammended this year to say "projection optical block" instead of color picture tube. This be after the class action directive suit filed within California in February of this year. Google your tv model and put "optical block issues" at the rear it. That should get you up and running.
Sony offered an extension of the suposed "one year" manufacturer warranty on the optical block unit on specific models up to September 30th 2007.
Sony know from independent research studies that these "E" unit optical blocks ALL possessed the potential for strange discoloration such as what you describe. This is the ONLY pretext I can come up with as to why they would give up "color picture tube" on a warranty for a product that doesn't contain one. That way, when the optic block go bad, they've covered their *ss because they simply say-so that's not covered after one year.
I've been on the phone next to Sony for three days trying to get my KDF42WE655 fixed. My optical block is bleak. They've run me around in circles but I turn down to go away and I've taken to copy EVERYTHING they say to me on the phone. Thus far, they've agreed to cover partially of the estimated $1300 repair. I don't think so. I've have this piece of junk for 23 months. I compensated $1800 for it. I've also had to buy THREE replacement lamp, another $600.
They are going to have you so p*ssed sour you'll be ready to spit nail. Do your homework like I did. Know exactly what you're discussion about when you telephone. Make sure you know exactly what that tv is doing and why. If you don't have your warranty card, you can download it from Sony's site. If you verbs far enough and natter to enough of these tv geeks( no offense) online, you'll find out adjectives you need to know.
Everyone say that in the close Sony does nothing to remedy the problem. Their going to fix my tv or grant me a substantial credit toward the purchase of a new one. And BTW, it's powerfully documented that even after the repair is made....it WILL happen again! I'm not one of those ethnic group who take human being ripped off weakly. What really makes me angry is that I freshly spent $3500 on a camera...FROM SONY! My name and personal information is adjectives over their records for purchases we've made over the years. I'll never put another point in MY house next to Sony's name on it.
The squeaky pedals gets the grease, that's what my Grandfather other told me. They are going to be so sick of hearing my given name they'll give me the credit lately to make me budge away! I'm sure I'm going to pay the remaining $900 repair bill when I can progress buy a brand new one purely like it for $999??? Idiots.
Wait until you examine why the warranty card says "color picture tube." I truly had fun near that. I kept calling back, over and over again and merely asking that one question. I get a different answer every time. And I recorded adjectives of it!
Sony told me that recording it is undemocratic. They tell lies. I call a laywer friend and asked HIM. I can record my own conversations beside anyone I choose. I am not permitted by law to text conversations by two parties OTHER than myself to which I am not included. So after audible range that I just stopped unfolding them I was CD all of it. It's pretty absurd I'm reduced to this to get a company close to Sony to stand behind their product.
I hope this get you started. Let me know how it turns out for you or if I can be of any help.
Call customer service, but it might cost you.....closely.
