20+ year old sony tv set?
Answer:
I'd be surprised they "used it every day"...20 years on a Sony really doesn't surprise me, yet it does.
That's a pretty good picture tube they have.
My Mitsubishi PTV lasted 18 years, and it only needed the video amplifier to fix it, unfortunately that part was obsolete, so I had to buy a new TV set..
Sony TVs are probably one of the best TVs out there. As for the reliability, they do seem to require some work as they age, but very little over the lifetime of the TV.
If tvs are well taken care of, they last for a while. RIght now we have a 46 and 60 inch Sonys in my house. But in the basement are a few 32, and 29 inch Sonys and Toshibas that are about 20 years old. But yeah, obviously I love Sony.I got so many of their products...
I had a panasonic that I gave away. It's over 20 and still running strong.
However, when the signal standard changes in 2009 none of the CRT sets will be compatible. Of course you will most likely be able to get a converter but most people are moving away from CRT.
They used to make things better and items were actually made to stand the test of time. That was before everything was all made out of cheap materials in China so that you have to go and buy another new -------- (insert any merchandise name here)
every year.
We only have one telly in the house which is an 18 year old Sony. It just keeps on going the picture is still great, sound good etc, so never considered changing it. My friends have upgraded to newer more fancy models only to find they konk out after about five years. One was told by sales guy in John Lewis that they are built to last five years only, and recommended she take out the five year guarantee on any new telly she bought as it would probably die before the guarantee and she would get a replacement. Hows that for a sales patter!!
