Sony Bravia XBR4 TV. Is it supposed to do that?

I just get the TV today, and I've used it with the PS3 and a Wii. I concentration that when the TV displays its own menus, or when the PS3 or Wii shows a screen next to white lettering on a black background, the entire blind dims until a different image comes up. Is this supposed to begin? Can this be turned off surrounded by some way? I looked through adjectives the menus and can't find it. Hope you can help.

Answers:    There's no break-in extent. My Bravia doesn't do anything like you describe. I suggest you turn to a store and see if their display model works like yours. The single time I've seen anything close to you describe is when I tune the TV's QAM tuner to a channel and it can't find a signal-then the tube being looked for information dims.

Update
There is another possibility. Some sets can adaptation brightness as a function of the average brightness of the picture. This is used to increase effective contrast ratio. This can be turned-off surrounded by the settings.
LCDs do this until they are broken in. About 100 hours of viewing.
