Standard definition signal on LCD HDTV - Posterization?

My wife and I have both see image defect on LCD HDTVs when viewing standard definition signals that I think might be call posterization. Basically, what is supposed to be a smooth gradient of color (such as a clear blue sky) will appear "splotchy", where on earth there are varied patches of color a bit than the expected smooth gradient. I hold seen this on adjectives the LCD HDTVs I have see so far. Does anybody else see this, and is this posterization? I find it to be very objectionable, to the point that I hold decided to not take a LCD HDTV. I'm surprised it is not mentioned more commonly.

Answers:    Yes-I have see something that sounds the same, but what I saw be a processing artifact. Did you see the same signal displayed on a Plasma set? I'd be curuous to see if it showed-up within. The bottom line is that from when the pristine video is originally produced, and it if truth be told gets displayed, an awful lot of harsh things happen to debase the signal; and, yes the panels themselves contribute to the shame. This is why it's critical that you see any set you're interested in, driven by duplicate signals you will use.
Hi John, Yes you're right the problem is in resolution if truth be told where SD resolution is totally small and ussualy in 4:3 format. If you force to display this statue in big eyeshade 16:9 TV the image will look unpromising it's like not adequate picture information to fill the eyeshade. But I think the erudite choise is small screen size similar to 32" or 26" size. You must use HD signal for HD TV than the picture will look great. The future is HD soon adjectives SD signal will no more.
