It is more likely to do so, but not necessarily inevitable. As previous answerer said, there is the chance of burn-ins on your screen, particularly if an image is continuously flashing on your screen, as is the case with many video games. They are overcoming this problem, but it is still a possibility.

No. Video games on a plasma is not a risk. Having a plasma is the risk. Plasma TV's have a high occurence of "burn in", like the old computer monitors that had the images burned onto the screen. Plasma's create a lot of heat, and if the image is left "still screen", for a length of time the screen will be ruined. The newest models of Plasma's are reducing the risk of burn in, but it is still a problem.
I think the rumor you were talking about is with DLP TV's. I have not seen this yet, but I have heard the rumor.
