What is the Difference Between an LCD TV and a Plasma TV?

Answers:    Plasma produces higher contrast and blacker blacks, but requires subdued lighting for best viewing. Plasma displays capture quite thaw - feel one within the store that has be on for a while.
LCD is brighter but not as constrasty. Some LCD's have trouble near fast moving similes.
nothing
LCD is for the ppl who cant afford a Plasma
LCD the picture is much better I enjoy a 40 inch LCD and love it. It is great.plasmas can fade over time.
The difference is about twice the price and twice the element in pixel rate.
LCD is alot of lights and plasma is gooey. LCD gives you a better viewing experience alot of relatives say.
Get an LCD. They cost more and for appropriate reason. Better picture, no glorious altitude issues, no "burn in," they are slimmer and they don't weigh a partially a ton. The only (hardly significant) downside near an LCD TV is that (1) the blacks aren't as deep and (2) if a pixel burns out, you'll hold to live with that little tiny white speck on your eyeshade, it can't be fixed.
about $500 - depending on size.
if you own money to burn go plasma, if go LCD - newly be sure to get HD.
PLASMA
= Not as clear as LCD
= Cheaper
= different appearances surrounded by different angles
= Not as space saver as LCD.

LCD
= Sharper metaphors
= Very Expensive!
= Hi maintenance
LCD tv's produces lots of warmth. if your room temperature is constantly not competent to cool it down. the LCD's life will shorten.

for example: instead of 6 years maintain in a cool environment, it would walk as low as 3.5 years.
turning on the aircondition is recommended while watching LCD.

If you have the space, i suggest you buy the conventional.
If you hold the money buy the LCD.
Plasma is out!
Plasma screens are better surrounded by a darkened room (home theater) while LCD looks better in a room that have more light coming surrounded by from the outside. If you go beside LCD, try to get one that will automatically adjust the picture beside the changing wispy conditions. Plasmas come in bigger peak sizes and are cheaper but they don't have the longevity that LCDs own. Plasmas also rarely own problems with ghosting because the eyeshade updates very in a hurry. This is why they are top choices for displaying sports events. LCDs are more prone to this problem especially in former times, so pay attention to the strengthen rate, the smaller the number the better. LCDs also are the better choice if you plan on playing HD video games on them, again make sure you pick a eyeshade that has a promptly refresh rate. Some brands of LCDs contained by particular enjoy special "gaming modes" built in to generate games look even better. You also have to wish on getting a cheaper 720P or the more expensive 1080P models. If you plan on watching HD DVDs or BLUE RAY you will want a 1080P model with an HDMI nouns. Most HD programs you see on TV are 480P so if you don't want to watch HD DVDs you can return with away with a 720P model.

I hope this help you out :)
Here put simply is the differences between Plasma and LCD

LCD's: Higher resolution (Sharper),brighter, non-reflective.

PLASMA: Faster processor for movement, (Smoother images) more natural colours (because of better contrasts),and 3 dimensional look.

Most people are buying LCDs, as next to HD TV they look that much sharper, etc. If you are a sports fanatic, recommend Plasma still, because of lots of movement, but for standard TV / Dvds and gaming, LCD. Follow the trend!

Both are great technologies, freshly different! Similar prices across the board too.

It seems that no situation who you talk too, or read reviews give or take a few, Plasma still comes up with the overall best picture, but most society would rather own Sharper Image, and Non-Reflective screen, than a more Realistic Image beside Smoother Movement?!?!

Recommend: Sony/Samsung/Sharp LCDs. Panasonic/Pioneer/Samsung plasmas.

Hope this helps.
Okay to cut a long story short, travel for the LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) since they outlive Plasma TVs, and looking at the ratio of Plasma to LCD TVs that I see coming into our store for repair, the LCD wins!

That and the minor reality that LCD screens don't draw from as hot as plasma!
Some good answers point to LCD. I own an LCD TV but it took me some 6 months to decide which one I needed (Plasma v LCD), as they all own some good points and impossible points with respectively brand / model. One article I have read indicates that anything up to 40" is LCD and anything larger should be plasma. Your 42" is borderline. My final two choices come down to a 40" Samsung LCD or 42" Toshiba Plasma. The Samsung won because it had a really soaring contrast ratio and the design was better. Both TV's have everything else I wanted. Watching HD on the LCD is superb, especially cartoon! (Keeps ther kids happy). Also, invest in a clothed home cinema system, again this opens up another world of choice, but thats for another put somebody through the mill. Happy hunting
This link will explain these for you, but my personal choice is Sony LCD 42" Bravia.

Good luck.
primarily you will get a much better picture beside an LCD than a plasma. The other main point is that at some time surrounded by the future you may enjoy or want to get HD, most plasmas dont propose this but youll find this on most LCDs. Top tip- technology is changing immensely fast in this day and age, unlike old tv's both plasmas and lcds enjoy a limited enthusiasm expectancy, normally rate in hours. A friend of mine works at Currys and their 5 year warranty is similar to lots of other main electrical suppliers in that if they cannot fix it economically they enjoy to replace it with a similar to for like (quality wise) section. As you will be lucky to get 3.5-4 years from your contemporary TV, for the cost of your warranty, you in effect get hold of a new TV at some point down the vein!! Ive already done this with a technics stereo i bought, getting a exotic denon unit much to my amusement! You also wrap up up with a newer model!
Ignoring the rubbish going on for plasmas running very hot, or singular lasting for 3 years, or one and only working well surrounded by the dark, or need their oil changed, most nation actually prefer plasmas to LCDs.

I hold a 37" Panasonic plasma - on many occasion, people enjoy said, "Oooh, nice LCD television" (or something similar) because they have be TOLD that LCD is better, without even comparing the two types. It's other a shock to them, when they find out it's a plasma TV...

For the truth and not the hype, check out the link below:
BE AWARE. LCD enjoy a plastic matte screen and are massively fragile. If it gets broke it is trash and not warrantied. If you hold small children do not get LCD.
Plasma have a glass peak.
best 42inch is the Samsung 1080p full hd.
