My HDMI simply displays 720p?

I have a clean LG LCD tv capable of 1080p. I enjoy a HD DVR box from my cable company, and all of the HD programming be running at 1080i on the TV via component cables, but I bought an HDMI cable within place of the components, and now it will one and only do 720p via HDMI when it did 1080i via component. What am I doing wrong? I know my HDMI cable will do up to 1080p. I don't expect to get 1080p from the HDMI since the signal is not 1080p, but why would it be in motion down to 720p when I was getting 1080i near an inferior technology?

Answers:    Your cable box settings for HDMI are probably set to 720P. Go into the settings, and set it to output at whatever resolution the signal is. By the channel, if your set is a 720P set (the fact it can display 1080P doesn't suggest it is 1080P), then there's nought inherently wrong with departing things as they are. You can try both ways and see whether the TV or the cable box does a better job converting to the 720P of your set. If it is a 1080P set, next you do want to change the settings.
720 progressive is better than 1080 interlaced, so give up your job the settings how they are.
