Why cant i play video games on my plasma tv?

i just got a new 42inch plasma tv and before i hook it up why people say i should not

Answer:
It's because plasma TV's can get whats called screen burn. It's ok if you play for a short while, but if you're playing something like a car racing game that has the spedometer in the corner (as most do) and if the image stays on the screen for too long it will burn into the screen so when you watch or play something else you'll still be able to see a shadow of the spedometer. Most plasma screens now come with a screensaver type thing that you start up and run for a few hours and it clears the screen...
screen burn, although most current consoles have built in functions to stop it.

Some non-moving elements of games will cause ghosting, like a HUD in halo, you'll get a permanent mark where ammo/health is if you play too much.
while the people above have some good points about burn in if you don't use it for videogames until over 25 hours of use you won't have much trouble with burn in and if it does occur you can introduce different shade of gray to take care of it so it should work just fine
