HDTV just for dvds?
Answers: HDTV displays the following in glorious definition:
1. A HDTV broadcast received via antenna (assumes you have such broadcasts where on earth you live) - see digital TV in reference list at the appendage of this response.
2. PS3 or XBox 360 games made in HD via component and audio cable nouns to the TV or via HDMI connection to the TV or via DVI and audio nouns to the TV -- not in HD if the nouns is not a HD connection -- also does not play PS1 or PS2 games or other games not made for these consoles contained by HD in HD.
3. HD-DVD and Blue Ray DVD discs played surrounded by players made for same and connected as the gaming systems were contained by #2 above.
4. HD broadcast via cable or satellite box connected as in #2 above.
Does not show surrounded by HD:
1. Analog or non-HD digital over the air programs
2. HD programs transmitted as SD on a non-HD digital trough (the transmitter and all hardware enjoy to pass the HD signal) - This applies to over the upper air and cable and satellite transmissions not ready for HD.
3. Non HD games as cited above and non-HD DVD video such as those that play within standard DVD video players.
4. Connections to cable or satellite boxes which are not HD connections or lack of tuning within the TV set to avoid the need for the box (for instance some US sets enjoy tuners which bypass the need for a cable box when the channel are unscrambled).
HDTVs can display regular programming as wellas HD programming. Same with video and DVDs.
