Question roughly speaking core cable and my tube.?
Answers: You could get impossible to tell apart channels downconverted to standard definition TV if you can bring back the same characteristics of tuner. Not sure if you live in the US but if you do his set probably have ATSC and QAM tuners. You can add a ATSC tuner near any set top digital box designed for over the air reception of digital and HD channel (which are only one form of digital channels).
Here is a RCA product explicitly coming soon to stores:

You could also add one of these up to date DVD recorders that accounts in SD from any NTSC (analog) and ATSC (digital including digital SDTV and digital HDTV).

Only entity it would lack is QAM tuning (digital cable single channels which may or may not be HDTV). To find out if this is what is man used you have to see if this is contained by the specifications for his HDTV. If not then it cannot be what is person used. If so then you may or may not obtain these channels by adding together a box.
Oh and one more entry, I am tired of people wise saying you cannot watch HDTV channel on a regular TV. You can watch the channel it is just that the signal will be converted to a lower resolution by anything you use to convert the signals. A digital ready SDTV can tune contained by a HDTV channel it freshly limits it to 480i resolution. A digital prepared EDTV limits it to going on for 480p and might be wide peak compared to most SDTVs which are not usually wide blind but can be.
No it's his t.v
