Is a XD LCD TV better or equal to a HD LCD tv?
Answers: Our broadcast engineer doesn't know what he is discussion about. XD is LG's designation for the processor that upscales standard definition TV to this sets local resolution which is 768P. This is an HDTV. This set has a ATSC tuner which Will receive over the upper air digital TV including HDTV. It also has an NTSC tuner for displaying OTA analog TV and Cable analog TV, minus a cable box. It also has a QAM tuner which will display adjectives non-encrypted digital on cable, without a cable box. This regularly includes local HDTV channels. Both LG and Sony are well brought-up brands.
SD = Standard Definition = Lowest quality picture
XD = Somewhat better than standard = Medium Quality picture
HD = High Definition = Best Quality Picture
With an ATSC tuner built within they all show like programming but the SDTV cuts the image to display it as 4 by 3 or alters the aspect to brand name it fit in the valise of 16 by 9 program source.
XDTV probably keeps the 16 by 9 aspect but does not show matching quality of picture as the 720p, 1080i or 1080p HDTV sets. If the eyeshade is small enough and you don't sit too close you might not discern the difference.
HDTV comes in three formats 720p, 1080i, or 1080p. 720p have the advantage of lower cost but is still progressive scan so looks better beside high speed sports than does the 1080i next to its interlaced scan. The 1080p looks the best but only near sources that create 1080p images can you really detail the difference (although it should look good beside all sources).
Broadcast Engineer is right. He in recent times confused XD with ED (Enhanced Definition). Give him the 10 points. The second guy is of late being an a*s roughly speaking the XD/ED thing.
