Answers:    Depends, but it may have to stir to a shop. Let me explain:

When you first turn on a TV set sometimes you may see discolored splotches around the corners or the edges on the screen. These are recurrently caused by an especially strong compelling field mortal near the TV (for example, a stereo speaker). These spots can even be cause by the way the TV sits inwardly the Earth's natural fascinating field.

If you be to take sour the back of your TV set (which I do NOT support, there are **dangerous** voltages within there) you would see a coil running around the tube and connected to the curcuit board. This coil of wires is known as a **Degaussing Coil**. What happen is that, when the TV is powered up, a relay on the board kicks within and energizes this coil (that's why you always hear a "click" when you hit the power switch). The degaussing coil straightens out the color beam coming from the base of the tube so that everything lines up nice and tidy. The relay turns on and fast cuts right back past its sell-by date (taking power away from the coil) because the degaussing coil only requirements less than a second to do its assignment.

If you are getting weird-colored spots on the TV then see if you hear that "click" when you turn it on. If you don't after that could mean the relay isn't turning on and powering up that degaussing coil. Sometimes, however, the problem is intervening and can be fixed in the home by have the repairman plug in an external degaussing coil and wave it in front of the eyeshade (this would be the easiest fix).

Another problem you could be having is something call a "shadow mask", which is part of the tube. Tiny holes within a metal plate separate the colored phosphors in the covering behind the front cup of the screen. The holes are placed within a manner ensure that electrons from each of the tube's three cathode guns accomplish only the appropriately-colored phosphors on the display. All three beam pass through alike holes in the concealing outfit, but the angle of approach is different for each gun. This is what give you all the colors you see on the eyeshade. A shadow mask can be tatty by accidentally dropping the TV, among other things.

I would suggest taking this TV to a repair shop. If it's just a degaussing coil problem after it will be a little easier to fix and not so unpromising on your wallet; OTOH if it's a shadow mask problem next the only road to fix it would be to replace the tube, and this can be expensive. A shadow mask problem on a used TV (to me) equals "buy another TV".
