Do adjectives LCD/Plasma t.v.'s display a poor ability picture for standard definition programs?
While the channel brodcast in HD (1080p) look fitting, although still not as good as I expected (the in-store display be fantastic)...the standard definition channels (480i) look crappy! Pixelated, cloudy, etc.
As this is my first LCD, I'm wondering if this is commonplace?
I'd hate to hold to return the t.v. if I'm just going to experience indistinguishable thing near any other LCD.
Answers: SD TV on an any HDTV display -- but particulalry on a large one resembling yours -- is going to look poor. You are stretching 480 lines of resolution over 2-3x as big a screen.
It is not unusual for flatpanel HDTVs to certainly look worse with SD programming than on matching size "oldfashioned" CRT screen.
At like time you may have some adjustment to make to optimize the picture. Out of the box plentiful TVs are poorly set up. However, I suggest doing this with an HD signal not SD. If you want to run a "semiprofessional" approach get a copy of the DVD "Digital Video Essentials: High Definition" ... it have all sorts of question paper to calibrate your home theatre/HDTV.
for a 42" tv you should be sitting 9 feet away for best picture so a 46 i'd influence 10 feet away
hope you hold a big front room lol#
