IF NOT...get a copy of your purchase account and take the TV to an AUTHORIZED SERVICE CENTER...Before it expires.
Take it contained by to get repaired lower than warranty. Sounds like a elemental video amp circuit has gone thinned. (Similar to turning the brightness control WAY down, and probably the same circuit.) Nothing gruesome but why pay a couple hundred for repairs yourself if it's still below warranty?

If you had said it purely seemed to be dark, I would have told you to check your contrast and brightness controls.

If you are talking 5 years all right Plasma screens tend to make available trouble,around around this time and some of the early ones from 4 years on, I enjoy several each Month I lift to the tip.
It is not worth fixing, the early TV use Cathay-ray tubs you can replace them but presently they are not worth replacing.
It's a throw away World.
