What is the set top box for HD TV?

Hi, I just bought a TV HD 1080p next to HDMI input. Somebody told me that I need the set top box to converter the signal from the cable or antena to HD. What is that? Do we hold any set top box with input for cable and sattelite and output for HDMI connector? What model i obligation to buy? where can I buy it?
Please lend a hand, Thanks

Answers:    You don't necessarily need a set-top box.

If your HDTV comes near a standard tuner (and most do), it is already capable of acceptance non-digital, non-HD channels from your antenna or cable service. No, you are not getting HD - these stations will be upscaled/stretched to fit your TV eyeshade.

If you have digital cable, you will obligation a cable box, which you will then connect to the HDTV. Note that "digital" does NOT propose "high definition". There are digital channel that are not in HD.

Also, if you receive satellite, you'll also get a set-top box from them that connects to the satellite dish on your roof. Like the cable box, this doesn't necessarily offer you HD either.

So...how do you in reality watch HD stations?

Some HDTVs come next to an additional QAM tuner. This allows your HDTV to receive HD channel from your antenna, and, to a limited extent(!), over your cable TV cable. The cable provider already carry your local stations' HD channels - similar to FOX HD, NBC HD, CBS HD, and a few others. These you can get for "free" short having to upgrade your rudimentary cable subscription.

Now if you want stations like Discovery HD, or Food Network HD, afterwards you will need an upgraded roll from either your cable or satellite provider. This is usually another $10-20/mo.

HDMI is a brand new cable standard, that allows you to send a digital video and audio signal over a single cable. It, or a component video nouns, are REQUIRED for getting HD out of things like winter sport consoles, set-top boxes, or one of the new HD movie players. If you find the HD package from your cable or satellite provider, they will make a contribution you a HD-enabled set-top box that can use HDMI to connect to your HDTV. It is recommended you use HDMI whenever possible. It offers the best possible picture.
If you live surrounded by the United States and your new HDTV have an ATSC tuner you do not need anything else merely an antenna for over the air tuning of channel. For cable TV the HDTV needs NTSC cable tuner for analog channel and QAM tuner with cable card (or set top cable box) for digital channel. Depends on which model of TV that you have. Without such a tuner if you enjoy a cable box with HDMI output and the appropriate HDMI cable you don't entail anything else.
Since you bought an HDTV, you need to know that not adjectives channels are within HD. Some channels will look horrible while others are better. In decree for you to receive HD channels, you have need of to have a Cable Service provider or a Satellite Cable provider. They will bestow you the equipment you need to receive HD service. One other prospect is to buy an HDTV antenna which costs around $10-20. and can give you free HD channel over the air but remember that not adjectives channels are available within HD.
