How come my internet cable works within one room and not the other? Cable TV works within both.?

Switched the computor into the bedroom. The internet will not work, but the cable TV works fine. Ran Long cable to spare room where computor be before and it works fine. Cable co say they have to sent technition out to carry it to work because the signal is set up stronger in the spare room than the bedroom. Is this a scam, and is ther something I can pick up at the stare to boost the signal myself? I am clueless give or take a few this. I figured I would plug it contained by and go.
