Comast Cable Question...I'm Confused!?
What is going on?

Answers: What you are seeing are other peoples video on constraint. Cable companies usually broadcast their VOD channels on 4 frequencies. While you be doing your "DTV Cable Search", a few people on your node be watching VOD on those frequencies. Comcast does not have digital session base encryption turned on, this allows anyone that is contained by the same node as the party that orderd that VOD to be able to access it as long as they are competent to tune to that channel.
I work for the company that make the software that controlls the digital cable. It cost about $60,000 to buy the license to see session base encryption. In times gone by when TVs didn't have QAM tuners built contained by, this wasn't a propblem. Cable companies are now slowly starting to realize that citizens are watching other peoples VOD for free. This could be a very big problem for them. What if a small child happen upon the neighbors porn VOD. I am sure as soon as Comcast in your local marketplace realizes this is arranged, they will cough up the big bucks to buy that license.
I was contained by Naples, FL working on Comcast's headend computer and I discovered the same entry happening nearby. I talked them into buying the license, to fruitless I didn't get a commission.
