I can understand why my TV picture is stretched out, I just hold standard cable and not HD. I just get a 50 inch plasma TV. Why are DVD's and XBox games stretched out? (I play DVD's on my XBox) I can set my screen to 4:3 ratio so the emblem is not stretched out but then I own the 2 grey bars on the side.
Answers: You enjoy a settings issue.
SD TV is 4:3 while your HDTV screen is 16:9, unless you stretch the 4:3 symbol side to side there have to be something to fill the peak to either side ... that's the bar. See the link to see relative shapes and sizes of varied aspect ratio images. Now conjure the 4:3 one shrunck to fill the ehight of the 16:9 one ....see why it have to have bar?
Now, when combined with an external device (DVD player, XBox) since here are two places that set aspect ratio .. the HDTV and the external device. ... this can lead to strange results. They enjoy to be set correctly. Try setting the TV for widescreen/16:9 and then relate the Xbox or DVD player that it is feeding a 16:9 display.
Hope this help.
