i don't know where "fecomosis" gets his info from but Samsung makes really good Lcd's. You are right about Sony being excellent but they are also very expensive. Samsung is kinda the new Sony now. They make excellent LCD's that rival Sony but are also key word here:affordable. Follow this link and you will see what i mean. Don't read the editors review. instead read the user reviews.
Well theres either junk, or theres quality. You can tell the difference because of the price, picture, and overall quality.
Sony leads the LCD world.

Toshiba Regza are georgous and built to last.
Stay away from off brands and these brands, Samsung and Phillips/Magnavox,RCA all wallmart brands/samsclub..etc

The top LCD brands would be Sony, Sharp, and Samsung imo. These tv's last pretty long and have high ratings. If you are really on a low budget then look for brands such as Westinghouse and if you have to then Visio. LG also makes a pretty good tv and at a decent price
