My ilo 26" flat screen television stretches everything out to both sides making everyone look very fat. Why?

The picture fills the full screen, but it distorts everything by stretching it out horizontally. Everyone looks too fat. Is there any way to adjust or correct that problem?

Answer:
Usually the menu has an "aspect ratio" choice. You can pick regular or letter-box. It sounds like you are in the wide "letterbox" mode now which is only aimed at movies being sent out in that format. A standard one stretched to letterbox makes everything fat just as you are experiencing.
thats what happens when you watch regular TV on a widescreen HDTV. there should be a picture mode button that you can change to regular 4:3 mode. you'll have black bars on the sides of the screen, but thats what happens with widescreen TVs until everything is in HD.
try the zoom setting
there should be a picture mode button on your remote
