Plasma TV resolution cross-question?

I see a lot of TVs, plasmas especially near native resolutions of 1024 x 768 (or something resembling that).

I don't understand how can these display 1080i and 720p signals? These signals are hold native resolutions above the home-grown resolution of the screen, so how is it accurately displaying these HDTV signals?

Answers:    I will keep hold of it short and simple:-)
768 lines is MORE than 720, so to display 720p, the TV scales the input up.

1080i is actually two 1920x540 field at 60 fields per second. Cheap TV, will throw away one corral and they will scale the other grazing land to 736 lines.
Better TVs, will combine the two fields, and degree the 1080 picture down to 736 lines.
At 42" (for a 1024 x 768) you can't see the difference.
it is not it is in analog
