Old LCD in need HDCP?
Answers: HDCP is a copy protection side for the new HD video formats - HD-DVD and Blu-Ray. I'm not aware of cable companies requiring HDCP - nearby are too many HDTVs out at hand that don't have it. (only sets in the past 2 years own started to support it.)
Right now, HDCP is not man used or enforced for Blu-Ray or HD-DVD. The studios have agreed to keep on until 2010-2012 before enforce it. When they do, you will still be able to view a movie on Blu-Ray or HD-DVD, but it won't be in HD. It'll essentially look approaching a normal DVD. I do not know if this would affect current discs, or singular be on discs manufactured after that point.
As far as I know, HD cable and satellite boxes can use both component or HDMI. HDMI is preferred because it's a single cable (as opposed to 3 for component video, plus the audio cables) However, at hand won't be a huge difference between the two.
HDMI or Component are the ONLY ways to get a HD signal to your HDTV. S-video or Composite Video are incapable of carrying HD signals. You will still get your non-HD channel, but you will not get any HD channel at all.
What? Do you show HDMI? HDCP is something completely different. Plus, your cable company doesn't make you use anything. HDMI will grant you the best picture quality (theoretically anyway). If your TV does not hold an HDMI input then component video is the subsequent best thing. Personally, I dont mind any difference whatsoever between the two.
Component video will look great; however, without HDCP you may not know how to connect to Blu-Ray or HD DVD players and watch movies at full HD resolution.
If you a short time ago plan to use a set-top box, you will be OK with component.
Absolutely not....BOTH HDMI and Component connections are High Definition....
The lone real difference is the AUDIO...HDMI can deliver DOLBY surround to the TV set...

You want to deliver it to a Dolby Surround amp...using an Optical (Tos-Link) or Digital Coax cable anyways, so HDMI is of late another "method of transmission", just approaching the COMPONENT cables are....
