Which is better: LCD or Plasma TV?
Answer:
LCD! Plasma is ran off of a gas, very easy to burn images into screen. Plasma also has bad glare due to a glass screen. LCD's are a little more pricey but well worth the money. 1080p is the way to go if you can afford it. Dont go into buying a TV soley on contrast numbers. While 10000:1 is good this means very little to the naked eye. Try to keep it 5000:1 or above. You will only notice a diffenence in contrast if you have a theater room (black walls, zero light). It is a fact that one lit candle in a room can take 10000:1 to 500:1 to the naked eye. Research the question "is higher contrast better" on google for more info. Companys use big numbers to help compensate for high prices. I have found that right now Samsung offers the most bang for the buck. I would stay away from anything to cheap. Vizio and Westinghouse are the better lower end brands.
Plasma
LCD doesn't have the problems associated with plasma. Burn-in and shorter life span. The primary failure mode of LCD is the lamps burn out. However most are replaceable.
Buy a name brand, you won't need to take it back.
Plasma. LCD televisions still have a while to go until they will have a clear sharp picture. I have a Samsung and I love it. In fact, I want it to bear my children.
Off brands are just junk, most of them are samsungs.
Vizio has no parts or support, high failure rates as well.
Samsung and Phillips/magnavox have the highest failure rates above all. Also have no support or Parts after warranty.
Buy name brand and you wont have to worry about any of this.
LCD also has the potential of burn-in as well, but its alot harder to do so. **I have seen first hand, since I repair tvs, I know**
