No they are not a currys own make ( currys don't sell them ) comet are the major retail outlet for the uk. i belive that you are in a very small minorty that think they are rubbish!!.

I have a Monster brand HDMI cable and I have been really happy with it.
The Chord Company make one that has won awards. I use one and I tried lots of different ones first. It is a bit more expensive than monster for example but the picture is so much better.

Check out the Award Winning cables from QED as well (stay clear of Monster cables; they are just nasty Curry's/Comet rubbish).
