Should I get an lcd or dlp rear projection and on either should it be 720p, 1080i, or 1080p?

is the 720p, 1080i, or 1080 a big diffence?

Answer:
DLP's/ SXRD (Sony's version) technology is a great way to get a larger screen for a lower price than a Plasma or LCD. But do consider that you will have to replace bulbs on the rear projection style. The bulbs usually last about 2-2 1/2 year based on 5-6 hours of use every day. The bulbs run about $250 and they cant be touched with human hands because of the oils on our hands.

Now if none of this bothers you than this is a great way to go and consider consider the DLP. LCD still has a few kinks to work out with their rear projection's.

When it comes to the resolution there are a few things to consider. 1080p is the highest resolution yes..but. the only way to get that high of a resolution is with Blue Ray or HD DVD. 1080p won't be broadcasting over the air for about 8-10 years. 720p and 1080i on the other hand are broadcasting over the air. They both are equal when it comes to what they will do in quality. The "p" means progressive meaning that you will receive the full pixel all the time. The "i" means interlaced meaning that you will only receive half a pixel at a time. Making them essentially equal.

Over all if you like to watch movies and want to get a Blue Ray or HD DVD player go with 1080p in a DLP/ SXRD.
1080p will defenitly give you best picture. Contrast numbers are important try to find a tv with 6000:1 or above. 10000:1 and above is a major waste of money unless you have a zero light theater room. Your eyes will never see the difference between thoughs contrast numbers. Stick with a good brand when it comes to rear projection. Right now Samsung is best bang for buck. 1080p is the major picture factor when watching hdtv or blue ray disc.
Samsung also has the highest failure rates as well, so could it be that if its cheap its for a reason? hmm

If I were you, out of the 2, I would go with a Toshiba DLP. Very good units, excellent picture also.

Buy anyone of these brands and it will serve you well.
Sony
Toshiba
Mitsubishi
Pioneer
